Azide Thermolysis Frameworks: Self‐inflating, Porous, and Lightweight Materials

Porous organic materials have received increasing attention due to their potential applications, such as gas storage, separation, and catalysis. In this work we present a series of aromatic, polyazide-containing building blocks that enable the formation new class amorphous porous materials. The azide precursors are obtained in moderate good yields following an easy synthesis procedure. By thermal decomposition, self-inflating structures named Azide Thermolysis Frameworks (ATFs) can be obtained. Modified thermogravimetric analysis is used determine onset temperature at which azides decompose, frameworks formed. further investigated via infrared (IR) spectroscopy, elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), adsorption measurements. Specific surface areas pore sizes determined by nitrogen measurements 77 K using Brunauer–Emmett–Teller-method (BET) give up 677 m2/g for ATF resulting from thermolysis TPB-Azide 450 °C, compete with early Covalent Organic (COFs). Notably, specific area tuned varying temperature.
